About Somali American Farmers Institute
Our Mission
Somali American Farmers Institute (SAFI), founded in 2017, empowers Somali women and youth, African immigrants, and other underrepresented communities through organic urban and rural farming, land access, education, entrepreneurship, and clean environment, water and energy.
Our mission is to create a supportive environment where fresh, organic food is accessible to all while promoting self-sufficiency, community wellness, and sustainable food systems.
SAFI trains Somali women, youth, and beginning farmers through our farming programs and internships. SAFI advocates for policies that support African and immigrant farmers. We work with community members, partners, and policymakers to address barriers and promote equitable policies that improve access to land, resources, markets, and opportunities for African and immigrant farmers..
